    MASTERPIECE
    3 SPECIES - 12 TRILOBITES

    DRAMATIC ARTWORK.
CLUSTER of Cyphaspis walteri, Gerastos izius
    and Phacopida spp. Fossil Trilobites.

    Devonian. Jbel Mrakib, Morocco.
Restoration details: No restoration in any trilobite, except the usual little repairs on exoskeleton's and matrix's cracks, provoked by the extraction process. All the specimens are in their original place in the rock, as found on the mountain.

Lately, we are used to see the Mrakib's plates, with Cyphaspis walteri and associated species. Nevertheless, we can say that this is the most fabulous display someone's reached till now. Very frequently, as specimens are very near each others, preparators destroy one to completely prepare the adjacent one. No trilobites were destroyed on this plate and even the incomplete ones were left.

The final display is full of dynamism, a mortality scene that joins three species (10 Cyphaspis walteri, 1 Gerastos izius and one undetermined Phacophid), with no preferential orientation. "Movement" and three-dimensionality on a Devonian sea are the sensations we feel when appreciating this astonishing piece of art.

Besides the fantastic display of this huge piece, the specimens reveal a quite good preparation in general, showing magnific details, as eyes lenses, spines, cephalic tubercles and, of course, the expressive "DEVIL HORNS" from the 10 Cyphaspis walteri present.

The term unique applies perfectly in this case, adequate for that place waiting for the "special one" at one collection or to amazingly decorate an exquisite space.

Dimensions: The biggest Cyphaspis walteri (for comparison): 4,5 (including thoracic spine) x 2,0 cm; Matrix: 11,1 x 8,6 cm.

    Weight: around 600 g.

Finding locality: Jbel Mrakib, Anti-Atlas Mountains, Morocco.

    Taxonomy:
Species: Cyphaspis walteri; Family: Odontopleuridae; Order: Odontopleurida; Class: Trilobita.

Geological period: Devonian, from Paleozoic Era.
